Wings Paintings

Art can be a catalyst, a reminder of our potential, of how we can transcend limitations - Perhaps, to fly toward our dreams.
— Peter Schifrin, 2023

When envisioning this art, I saw human forms sprouting wings - not angels - but empowered human beings - poised to fly. Within everyone is the impulse toward achievement, an inner quest. As we listen to our inner wisdom and persist in our practice, we can impel dreams into action. We can fly.

In 2012, I was invited to participate in an exhibition at the London Olympiad with Art of the Olympians, a group of Olympic artist-athletes. As an Olympian myself, this inspired me to explore through sculpture and painting - the pursuit of dreams. Wings.

Initially, I composed black-ink line drawings on paper. These were colored, printed, and then each was individually hand-painted and recreated.

The paintings in this series are are 16” X 16” (40cmx40cm) and 24” X 24” (60cm X 60 cm).

The philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote that the ability to achieve a dream is inherent in the dreamer. That is, you would not dream something, if you did not have already within you, the means to achieve that dream.
