Human Race

It is surprising how our perspective can change based on our orientation. Identical forms, shapes and colors may tell us different stories when rearranged. Yet, the basic fact remains the same. We are all part of the same whole, sharing the human experience.
— Peter Schifrin, 2023

The colorful images in this series are meant to be fun, and serve as reminders that despite our differences we all come from the same source. No matter how we view life, or what our perspective is, there is only one Human Race.

One of the features of this series is that the images encourage diverse views. Each Human Race image can be rotated. There is no ‘one view’, rather alternate ways of seeing the image. Like alternate ways of seeing each other. No matter how the image is rotated, no matter how we view it, the heart-center of each image provides a constant point of connection.

Rashomon: Akira Kurosawa created a film titled, Rashomon, in which identical events are shown from different character’s viewpoints. Different views, but the facts remain the same. In my artworks, the experience of the image changes when rotated - Yet the truth remains constant. We are connected.

A version of you: The creator and social activist, Noman Lear, reminded us, “I’m just another version of you.” He continued, “The sooner we agree that we’re just versions of each other, the sooner we will come to the understanding that we are one.”

The paintings in this series are are 16” X 16” (40cmx40cm) and 24” X 24” (60cm X 60 cm), acrylic on canvas.
